Death in Paradise star breaks silence on show future after Ralf Little’s departure from BBC show

SARA Martins has spoken out about a possible return to Saint Marie following Ralf Little’s departure from the show.

Death in Paradise is going through some major changes ahead of its upcoming fourteenth series. When the drama returns to screens, there will be a new lead detective, but there will still be plenty of familiar faces.

As one detective leaves, another arrives and Ralf Little’s departure has paved the way for Don Gillet to take centre stage in paradise.

The EastEnders alum will play the new Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson following the exit of Ralf’s Neville Parker.

Gushing about his new role in a statement for the BBC, Don said: “Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands.

“This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled, and dedicated.

“Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer – whichever happens to be closer at the time!”

However, with such a big change underway, fans of the show have been left wondering what the future holds for other cast members.

Thankfully for fans, Sara Martins, who plays Camille Bordey, has broken her silence on whether she’ll be back on the BBC show anytime soon.

Sara was a series regular for the first four seasons of the show but has made two subsequent appearances, most recently showing up in series 13.

In an interview with Radio Times, Sara revealed that producers have been trying to come up with ideas to tempt her back — and it may just be working.

“The thing is, I always say no, and I always come back – even if it’s for one episode or one scene, the producers always come up with a nice idea that makes me smile,” she said, explaining the reason for her recent return.

Sara added that she has a very strong affinity to the show and would never rule out a more permanent return.

“And the thing is, I’m so connected to the show. I love it. I will be committed forever. Nothing is on schedule, but we never know. Maybe, maybe not,” she teased.

Sara’s comments come after former star Joséphine Jobert confirmed that she would not be returning to the BBC drama as DS Florence Cassell, saying she had “definitely done [her] time on the show”.

She said: “I’ve finally been able to say goodbye to Florence, and while I am very grateful to have been part of this project that has brought so many lovely things in my life, I am also happy to be able to move on and take part in new projects.

“But I completely understand why the question is asked. In fact, I am very touched that the public wants to continue following Florence.”
