Dermatologist says you only need 4 products for a travel skincare routine – & reveals the serum not to bother packing

DON’T bother pushing the limits of your carry-on liquid allowance by packing your whole 20-step skincare routine.

A dermatologist insists there are really just four products you need for your trip — and one beauty staple in particular can definitely be skipped on your week away.

Dr. Trishna Khanna is a board-certified dermatologist with some words of wisdom for your summer travel.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared tips for keeping skin healthy on vacation — with some tricks for a pared-down packing list.

DITCH THE EXCESS BAGGAGE

Dr. Khanna said many people have a multi-step skincare routine that keeps their complexion clear and fights the signs of aging.

However, not every product needs to be packed when traveling.

“If you really want to keep it simple, all you need are four products,” said the pro, who also serves on GoPure’s Dermatology Board of Advisors.

All you need?

“Cleanser to wash away the impurities, a retinol for firming, a moisturizer for hydration, and SPF for damage protection,” she pronounced.

Most everything else can be left at home and resumed when you get back — including a product on many people’s must-use list.

“A week without your hyaluronic acid serum isn’t going to make or break your routine,” she insisted.

“Just be sure that you have a solid moisturizer to cover hydration.”

SWITCH IT UP FOR THE SEASON

Dr. Khanna revealed the temperature of the place you’re visiting and the activities you’ll be doing can make a difference when deciding on the products to pack.

“It may be helpful to adjust your skincare if you’re swimming a lot, laying out in the sun, or sweating a lot,” she said.

“These activities tend to strip the skin of whatever you applied in the morning, so you may want to add a reapplication in the middle of the day.”

She said retinol can “dry out the skin,” so it may be worth weaning off it in colder climates and in winter to avoid irritation.

UV BLOCKING, YEAR-ROUND

And definitely don’t skimp on sunscreen, regardless of how cold or cloudy your destination is.

“I also want to add that sometimes people think SPF is strictly a summer product, but it should be used year-round,” she said.

She recommends GoPure’s Glow Pure SPF, which she describes as “hydrating with a slight tint that really makes the skin look radiant.”

FLAWLESS FREEBIES

Dr. Khanna expressed that topical creams and serums aren’t the only things to consider when nurturing skin health.

She revealed exercise is “so good” for a glowing complexion.

“It improves circulation, which helps deliver nutrients and oxygen to the skin, helping it look healthier and younger,” she said.

“Exercise also helps reduce stress, which can accelerate aging.”

She said relaxation techniques such as “meditation, deep breathing exercises, or yoga” can also help to manage stress.

“And of course, quitting smoking and moderating alcohol intake can have noticeable benefits for your skin and overall health,” she added.
