Joe Scarborough: Anger 'widespread' at those keeping Biden 'in a bubble'
MSNBC pundit Joe Scarborough said there is a feeling of frustration among Democrats aimed at people around President Biden who are keeping him "in a bubble" as he faces growing calls to drop out of the presidential race.
"You know, it’s really incumbent on people that are around Joe Biden to step up at this point and help the president. Help the man they love, and do the right thing. This is not going to end well if it continues to drag out. Look at the events of yesterday," Scarborough said on Thursday's "Morning Joe," his daily morning talk show, one day after Biden tested positive for COVID-19.
"The events of the last three weeks. At some point, you know, I can tell ya, Mike, the anger that I hear is not at Joe Biden. The anger I hear are at the people that are keeping him in a bubble," he added.
A growing number of prominent Democrats are calling on Biden to withdraw following his poor debate performance late last month and amid growing concerns about his mental acuity and ability to defeat former President Trump in November.
Polling shows Biden trailing Trump in several key battleground states, as more Democratic lawmakers have reportedly voiced concerns to the White House that his presence on the ticket could hurt the party's election outlook.
"That is the real anger. Let me tell you, that’s not just the anger from inside Congress. That is anger from inside the political, his own political camp. It is widespread. It is widespread," Scarborough said. "Joe Biden deserves better. He deserves better than he is getting from those closest to him."
Also during Thursday's broadcast, Mika Brzezinski, Scarborough’s co-host and wife, said it is becoming more apparent Biden might not be the party's nominee this fall.
"It may or may not be Joe Biden. I trust Joe Biden's abilities," she said. "I also trust Nancy Pelosi’s political acumen. Nobody knows politics more than her, and nobody — more than Nancy Pelosi. She does not get out there without information to back it up. She doesn’t take risks, and she knows her politics. She knows her numbers.”
