Will Lankshear was prolific last season

There was a clamour this pre-season from Spurs fans for manager, Ange Postecoglou, to throw 19-year-old academy striker Will Lankshear into first-team’s preparations ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Lankshear signed for Tottenham from Sheffield United’s academy back in 2022 and after a bright start suffered an injury in his opening season. (Football.London)

It was last season that Lankshear and Tottenham’s Academy sprung to life. The young forward netted twenty-three goals in as many games whilst playing in the PL2 league and play-off stage last season, both stages of which Tottenham were crowned champions of. (TransferMarkt)

The outstanding record earned Lankshear PL2 Player of the Season, but it wasn’t just the league rewarding Lankshear. Tottenham also offered the teenager a new five-year contract merely a year on from the ex-Sheffield United forward’s first deal which ran until 2026. (Tottenham Hotspur)

A host of Championship sides are keen to take Lankshear on loan

A new update provided by GIVEMESPORT reveals that Tottenham’s progression plan for Will Lankshear is to loan out the PL2 top scorer this summer, despite his goal in Spurs’ pre-season opener.

Two Championship sides have already made enquiries for Lankshear, namely Sunderland and Hull City. Both sides have a track record of developing young English forwards with ex-Spurs winger, Jack Clarke, flourishing at The Black Cats and Aston Villa academy product, Jaden Philogene, catching the eye whilst at Hull.

Another side who have made an optimistic enquiry is Hollywood-owned, Wrexham, who are looking to bolster their attacking ranks following their back-to-back promotions.

Spurs Web opinion

The next move for Lanksehar must be chosen carefully, as Spurs fans will remember, other promising academy strikers: Dane Scarlett and Troy Parrot have both had their careers hampered by poor loans.

I do believe however that Lankshear could be different to the other two. The 19-year-old’s skillset is more suited to a transition into the men’s due to his smart movement and clinical finishing being transferrable to senior football. Lankshear also possesses plenty of pace and power which should make his first loan to an EFL side easier to adapt to.
