New York City to install porous pavement in Brooklyn to prevent flooding

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – New York City is installing 7 miles of porous pavement in Brooklyn, with the hope it will ease flooding in areas prone to it.

Those areas include Sunset Park, Kensington, and Midwood.

The new, green infrastructure will filter and absorb stormwater as it falls. The more than $30 million project is expected to take a year to complete.

Officials plan to improve parts of the sewer system as well.
