Kristen Wiig has earned her 10th, 11th and 12th Emmy nominations, but can she finally win one?

“Palm Royale” and “Saturday Night Live” did well in the Emmy nominations this year with 11 and 17 noms, respectively. Among those are three nominations for star Kristen Wiig: Best Comedy Series as an executive producer of “Palm Royale,” Best Comedy Actress as the star of “Royale” and Best Comedy Guest Actress for hosting “SNL.” Those are her 10th, 11th and 12th nominations at the Primetime Emmys, but she hasn’t taken home a trophy yet. Is this finally her year?

It might be an uphill battle in a couple of her categories. For Best Comedy she faces off against “The Bear,” which just set a new record as the most nominated comedy in a single season. There’s also “Only Murders in the Building,” which is nominated 21 times, and you can’t count out “Hacks,” which has 16 bids. “Palm Royale” has 11 nominations. Granted, having the highest number of nominations doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll win the top prize. Just last year “The Bear” won when it had 13 nominations compared to “Ted Lasso,” which had 21 and was the two-time reigning champion.

She faces similar difficulty in Best Comedy Actress, where she’s up against two-time category winner Jean Smart (“Hacks”) and last year’s Best Comedy Supporting Actress winner Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”), who got a promotion to the lead race this year. Smart has never lost at the Emmys when nominated for comedy; she has five trophies to her name. And Edebiri is coming off an awards hot streak: she has already won Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild Awards for her leading performance in season two of the FX on Hulu dramedy.

Wiig’s best chance might be her guest acting nom for “SNL.” There she’s also facing a buzz saw — the tour de force performance by Jamie Lee Curtis in “The Bear” — but upsets are common in the guest categories. Just last year Sam Richardson (“Ted Lasso”) and Storm Reid (“The Last of Us”) both came from last place in our odds to win their respective races for Best Comedy Guest Actor and Best Drama Guest Actress. And since “SNL” was the show that made Wiig a star, voters might decide it’s finally time to award her a statue for her work on the sketch comedy. Best Comedy Guest Actress is, after all, the category that finally won overdue plaudits for her fellow “SNL” alums Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph. Perhaps lightning will strike a third time.
