‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ trailer sets the stage for winning legacyquel [Watch]

Nice f–king trailer, honk honk.

On Thursday, Warner Bros. debuted a new trailer for Tim Burton’s upcoming “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the best look yet at the forthcoming legacyquel that the studio will debut in September.

Buzz for the “Beetlejuice” sequel has increased in recent weeks, particularly around its awards bona fides. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will open the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where Warner Bros. launched “Joker” four years ago before that project went on an unexpected – and largely unprecedented – awards season run. Whether a similar fate awaits “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is obviously unknown, but it’s not hard to imagine a lot of fans of the original warming to the idea of getting star Michael Keaton back into the Oscar race. (Keaton has never won an Academy Award and his only nomination came for 2014’s “Birdman.”)

Keaton is the main engine driving this latest trailer, which also provides a better sense of the “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” plot: In short, a grown-up Lydia (Winona Ryder) calls upon Beetlejuice (Keaton) to help save her daughter (Emmy nominee Jenna Ortega) from the afterlife.

In addition to Keaton and Ryder, original “Beetlejuice” star Catherine O’Hara also appears. Newcomers to the cast include Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux, and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe.

Watch the new trailer for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” below. The film is out in theaters on September 6.
