Dubai princess ‘divorces’ husband in scathing Instagram post
The daughter of the ruler of Dubai has announced her ‘divorce’ in a brutal social media post.
Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum posted on her Instagram page an announcement reading: ‘I hereby declare our divorce,’ baffling her followers.
She married Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum in April 2023, and welcomed a baby two months ago.
The post read: ‘Dear Husband, as you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you and I divorce you.
‘Take care. Your ex-wife.’
She appeared to reference the Islamic practice known as triple talaq, which lets husbands divorce their wives by saying ‘I divorce you,’ thrice.
Sheikha Mahra’s husband and father have not commented on the matter.
All photos of the couple have been deleted from both Sheikha Mahra’s account and her husband’s.
The announcement has been both praised and questioned online.
The princess’ father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has ruled Dubai since 2006.
Sheikha Mahra is one of 26 of his children. She attended university in the UK, and has been vocal about women’s empowerment.
