The ‘Black Smudge Spot Crinkle Mesh Midaxi’ is available in an inclusive size range going from 8-24 and has a flattering ruching detail.

Sainsbury’s bosses say: “Achieve a stylish look this summer with our black smudge spot print sleeveless dress.

“In a crinkled mesh fabric, it comes in a flattering midaxi length with pretty ruching details. Finish your outfit with a pair of black sandals.”

Their Tu Clothing creative stylist Katrina also hailed the frock as “gorgeous” while talking through the supermarket’s current “must-have pieces”.

She said: “I absolutely love this column dress. Such a standout piece with a gorgeous print. Pile on some gold jewellery and you’ve got your summer night look sorted.

And shoppers seem to be in full agreement, as one gushed: “Just picked this up in my local store. Tried the skirt first then found this.

“Very flattering. Great for a hot holiday or more autumn with a black leather jacket.”

“I have been loving Tu this summer”, chimed in a second.

A third wrote: “Comfortable, fashionable and flattering. Great value too. Love it.”

A fourth added: “I am not a dressy person, but seen this in my local store fell in love with it.

“Flattering, you can dress it up with a blazer, but love it with my denim jacket.”

Meanwhile, a fifth chimed in: “Bought on a whim, but I like it. Fits well, great price too. Good for holidays.”

But if you’re struggling to get your hands on the popular dress in your size, fashion expert Katrina has revealed her other top picks on the supermarket rails.

She said: “These versatile pieces are the foundation to any wardrobe and will carry you over from season to season.”

First up, Katrina echoed other fashion fans and raved over a pointelle stitch polo top with crochet detailing that comes in black or cream.

The £20 top has previously been hailed as a “dream to wear” with Katrina adding that it is “super easy to style and goes with just about everything”.

The fashion expert also recommended a “beautifully tailored” cream suit – made up of a £28 blazer and £16 trousers.

Looking elsewhere in the clothing section, she tried on a £22 Light Green Crinkle Maxi Skirt.

She said: “Maxi skirts are a wardrobe hero and so easy to throw on.

Is supermarket fashion the new high street?

DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:

The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family.

Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a ‘strong growth in clothing’ and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street.

Asda’s clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year.

So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful?

Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it’s good quality too – with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative.

A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.

Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes.

“Pair with trainers and a tee for a pulled together daytime look or pop on your favourite heel to take you into the evening.”

She also tipped a pair of khaki barrel leg chinos to be the “go-to trouser for summer” and gushed over a wrap shirt that’s a “new take on a classic”.
