EV sales on track, but carmakers unlikely to hit US emission goals

A Greenpeace report suggests that major automakers, including Toyota, GM, Ford, Honda, Nissan, Stellantis, Hyundai, and Kia, are at risk of missing new US greenhouse gas emission targets set for 2032. The analysis indicates that even if these companies meet their current EV sales projections, their tailpipe CO2 emissions could exceed EPA standards by 8% to 154%. The report highlights that Toyota and Nissan face the most significant challenges, with Toyota projected to exceed targets by 154% and Nissan by 76%. Automakers need to accelerate their shift to electric vehicles to avoid penalties.
