Three arrested in connection with San Jose’s 15th homicide of the year

SAN JOSE — Three men have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting two months ago in South San Jose, according to authorities.

The shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. on May 26 at an apartment in the 1000 block of Blossom River Way, near the intersection of Winfield Boulevard and Blossom Hill Road, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release.

Officers arrived to find a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jonathan Isaac Oliva Rodriguez, 21, of San Jose. His death marked the city’s 15th homicide of the year.

Shih said an investigation culminated in the identification of three suspects: Nuuvali Lafo, 19, of San Jose; Isaac Noa, 24, of Los Banos; and Jason Vaavaai, 25, of Los Banos.

On Tuesday, Noa and Vaavaai were arrested in Los Banos and Lafo was arrested in San Jose. All three were booked into the Main Jail in San Jose on murder charges.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the homicide remain under investigation.
