Speed limit reduction in Albany postponed

A law to reduce the speed limit on most streets in Albany will not take effect until 2025.

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A law to reduce the speed limit on most streets in Albany will not take effect until 2025. City officials said they need more time to replace signs after the common council voted unanimously in favor of a proposal to reduce the speed limit from 30 MPH to 25 MPH.

Enforcement will begin on Jan. 1. A public hearing was held on Wednesday.

Leaders are unsure how much it will cost to replace the signs, but they said it should fit within the existing budget.
