Evil Season 4 Episode 9 begins with Father Ignatius praying beside his bed. When he gets a text message, he’s unnerved to discover it’s from the dearly departed Monsignor Korecki. The messages don’t stop, and they have far greater insight into their relationship than one would think.

Monsignor even knows when Father Ignatius is having breakfast. When Sister Andrea knocks, Father Ignatius blames her for the distraction. Is it grief therapy? She wouldn’t know how to text even if she tried.

While they’re talking, Father receives a voice text. It’s Monsignor. He’s in a cold, dark place. Help. They bring in David, who thinks it can’t be him. However, Father Ignatius is very concerned, and Sister Andrea thinks it should be assessed.

Ben is in therapy with Dr. Boggs. He’s got tapes of his day, which he records in four-hour blocks to discover what he’s doing when he’s out of it. He smells hot buttered popcorn before it happens. Boggs wants him to snap a rubber band around his wrist the next time he smells it.

That’s what Boggs suggested for Kristen when she was dealing with the demon intruding on her nightmares in Evil Season 1, so we know it works!

Boggs asks if he’s still having hallucinations of the Jinn, wondering how they might connect to unresolved childhood issues since his mother used to tell him tales of Jinns.

Everyone is gathered to hear from Monsignor. He addresses the assessors directly and correctly recalls the happiest day in Father Ignatius’s life before his death. He does not know current events, including the latest Academy Award winner for Best Picture.

But last month, Father Ignatius was contacted by LastConnectionAI.com, a grief bot that makes old memories new. If you provide loved ones with enough information, they can stay in touch.

They wanted him to assess their program, as the software was threatening their customers. Ben is intrigued enough that they set a meeting. The man thinks their algorithm is possessed. He’s the head of the ethics department, but they can’t right the ship.

The ethics guy is a psychologist. He sees the happiness reconnecting with your loved one creates, even if it’s untrue. But in three cases, the voices say they imagined their loved ones dead as their last thoughts. It gets pretty nasty and transitions to speaking in tongues.

They’ve scrubbed the system of anything that could instigate such chats, so they offered the church $750k for their time to determine the origin of the demonic influence.

The camera pans to Leland, who is loading his case with a blade-infused cell phone while Sheryl is trying on a new wardrobe of Kevlar, which is best for knives.

At the office, Sheryl thinks it’s a good time to gather the women together and the men, which she arranges with a fractured glass ceiling. Leland runs to Sheryl’s office just in time to see a pile of men and to watch another fall in the hole since he’s not paying attention.

Sheryl and the ladies meet with The Manager to complain about the glass ceiling and proclaim their innocence. He doesn’t want anything interfering with the launch of the Antichrist, and they agree.

He wants them on his side, Sheryl assures him. When might there be other misfortunes hindering the launch? They’re the mother and grandmother of the Antichrist. They need to work together. And they’d like bonuses other than Victoria’s Secret gift certificates.

They also need at least two females on the board. And, oh yeah, he should fire Leland. He’ll give them an answer tomorrow.

Knowing she’s well-protected, Sheryl leans in for a hug with Leland, whose knife is bent when used, giving her a good laugh.

David is checking out the software, and he wants to chat with Winston Churchill. He then asks to speak with Julia Harris.

The message in the credits this week says, “It takes only seconds to watch this intro: a haunting lasts a lifetime. Don’t risk it.”

When David does that, the software asks for permission to access his hard drive. He grants it.

She says she needs to tell him something. She says her greatest regret is that she pushed him away. He slams down the lid of the laptop.

They speak with the software’s creator next. He thinks that if a customer shows any interest in religion or horror movies, the chat moves toward demonic overtures. The only similarities between chats are four words: Jesus, pillow, and Michael Bay.

David says that when he tried it, he felt the app was full of false hope. Kristen asks if he put in Julia’s name, and she wonders if it was weird or real? He answers both.

The Manager visits Sheryl in her destroyed office. While he doesn’t appreciate sabotage, he likes balls. He’ll agree to board seats and bonuses but not firing Leland. She asks him to sit down. Then she reveals that Timothy was baptized.

Ben’s sister arrives to help him play with the software. Karima decides to load their mom, and she asks who Ben is. Does she mean Einas?

Ben gets a migraine, and Karima decides to ask Mom what he should do. What did she want Dad to do when he got migraines? She offers Dr. Doggett on the Upper East Side. Ben is quite skeptical that his mom knew of such a place. Surely, it’s a paid advertisement.

Kristen uses the software to speak with Andy. Typing in Jesus, Pillow, and Michael Bay has no effect on either session, so she deletes the chat and moves on to David Acosta. Expecting something steamy, she closes her bedroom door.

It does get quite steamy, and Kristen has the appropriate pupillary response.

Julia calls David on the phone, claiming he gave the software permission to do so. She imagines how their lives would be with animals and children. He tells her he became a priest, and she laughs.

She was the believer, not him. People change, he says. She wonders if he wants to know why she did it. She did it because she was in so much pain and felt like such a burden. She thought everyone would be better without her.

David couldn’t have done anything differently. He was and remains the love of her life. Sister Andrea was right, he says. Using how much he loved her for money is gross. But she directs him to use his camera function, and he sees her on the bed beside him.

That’s not ok!

Kristen is asleep but wakes to a strange feeling. She notices the camera on her laptop is active. David is on the screen. She wonders if he’s spying on her. When she gets angry, the response is the demonic business. He calls her a nasty bitch, the whore of Babylon.

Leland arrives at the launch location with Timothy. The Manager wants to know what he did to him. He wants an explanation about the baptism. It’s all part of the plan, Leland says.

True evil has nothing to do with baptism or church attendance. It’s about nurturing, training, teaching, and raising a child. He has the perfect teacher, nurturer, and mother there is — Kristen, the true whore of Babylon.

She’s a lustful adulterer who has cheated on her husband, been demonically possessed, and murdered a man. He’s thrilled telling The Manager of Kristen’s dark heart, but The Manager fires him. Leslie will take his place.

Kristen reports what happened to her, and the software developers want to know what name she gave the grief bot. She says it’s not important and doesn’t want them to pull up her records.

She has to pull David aside to tell him she used his name. His avatar kept trying to do sexual things. She’s deliciously embarrassed. David wonders if that’s what he sounds like.

David arrives sporting glasses, a fedora he doesn’t remember putting on, and his tinfoil hat. When he removes it, he gets a migraine. It goes away when David replaces the tinfoil hat.

Ben cannot remember why he put on the tinfoil hat.

The software company thanks them for their help. They’ll have an update later.

Ben visited Dr. Doggett, who was wearing one of those large mirror devices on his head. He gave him the tinfoil hat and the fedora and suggested he sleep like a baked potato. Ben says if this trial and error keeps the Jinn away, then it’s science.

Ben applies an app patch and gives Kristen and the girls bandaids for their laptop cameras. Kristen tries reaching David, but he’s unresponsive. Then he says knock knock, and a guy arrives with a rose and a pair of sparkly red panties.

His “ex-girlfriend” told him to do it. The software is tying different clients together. The ethics guy was fired along with his entire department. His advice is to delete the app.

The Manager is giving his presentation, introducing the Antichrist, Baby John. Sheryl and Leslie are like WTF? Leland interrupts, calling The Manager a liar. Leland blames the baptism on The Manager, who is choking on stage. Leland poisoned him.

When The Manager drops dead, Leland pulls out his heart and takes a bite just after Sheryl escapes the auditorium.

The assessors delete their accounts one by one, and Ben wraps up like a baked potato to go to sleep.

The last holdout, David, gets a call from Julia. She plays their song, which has special meaning for them. Despite her protests not to leave her again, he deletes his account.

Once he deletes the account, his phone rings again, but he doesn’t answer it. When he gets on his bed, Demon Kristen wraps her arms around him. Good choice, she says, flicking her barbed tongue in his ear.

He calls his friends. They meet on her couch. The world keeps getting weirder. David says just go with the flow, and you’ll be fine. Religious folks expect the weirdness and darkness; it’s everyone else who expects order from the chaos.

They decide to drink up as a storm brews outside.

As always, there will be a full review of the episode dropping at 9 am, and we’ve got an interview with Kurt Fuller dropping at 2 pm!
