Serie A side forced to play in DIY kit after failing to land deal… but fans say ‘that’s one of the coldest strips ever’

ONE Serie A side has been forced to play their preseason friendlies in DIY kits.

Italian club Venezia played their first warm-up match against Real Vicenza wearing a makeshift strip.

The Venice-based outfit have become famous for their kits over recent years, working with sports brand Kappa to create some of the best looking shirts in football.

But despite their collaborations helping Venezia earn the title of the “world’s most fashionable club”, Kappa chose not to extend their deal with the Italian side this season.

As a result Venezia, who were promoted from Serie B last season, have been left without a kit manufacturer just one month out from the start of the new league campaign.

That’s meant the club have had to make their own kits for their pre-season work, sporting an all-black strip with a centralised badge, no sponsor and green and orange trim on the sleeves.

While another added: “Looks miles better than anything Kappa did!”

And a fourth posted: “No kit supplier, no problem. That shirt still looks gorgeous”.

The kits certainly worked for the team too, with their friendly ending in a 7-0 victory.

Rumours had been circulating that Venezia were going to be signing a deal with Nocta.

Nocta are a sub-brand of Nike and are headed up by famous rapper Drake.

Nothing has been confirmed, but reports suggested that the brand would be keen to strike up a deal after existing relationships were in a good place from when Nike used to produce Venezia kits prior to 2021.

Venezia’s rise in recent years has been remarkable, going from bankruptcy to Serie A thanks to investment from New York Stock Exchange chief Duncan Niederauer.

Now they’re preparing to play in Italy’s top flight for the first time since finishing rock bottom of the table in 2022.
