A PUB in Glasgow sells Britain’s cheapest three-course dinner for under a fiver – and locals can’t get enough.
The Star Bar’s legendary three-course offer has been keeping guests full for decades, and they don’t plan on changing the prices anytime soon.
Brother-and-sister duo Paul and Giovanna Marletta inherited the bar nearly 40 years ago.
Back then, the three-course grub was an astonishing £1.
Now it sits at £4 and gets you a filling starter, main and dessert.
The pubs menu brags a homemade soup to start customers off.
As for mains, the menu does not fall short of options – from scotch pie to macaroni cheese – or even roast beef.
Then finish off with a dessert of either creamed rice or ice cream – all for a shocking total of £4.
But you can also opt to upgrade to a premium main for a pound, like fish and chips or ashet pie – a traditional Scottish dish.
Speaking to Sky News, pub owner Mr Marletta, 65, said: “We’ve got a lot of faithful customers. A lot of them come in here seven days a week for their lunch.
“There’s different variations of busy, but we’re never quiet. We don’t really advertise because we don’t have to advertise. We’re as busy as we can get.”
The deal is modestly featured outside the pub in small writing – but Mr Marletta explained why publicising the deal isn’t necessary for great business.
He said: “Many think, ‘If it’s that cheap, it’s probably crap’, but they leave having loved the meal.
“And they always come back, and that’s why we don’t have to advertise because our product speaks for itself.
“There’s nothing in here that I wouldn’t eat myself.”
The pub owner said how the meal is so tasty for cheap because of their suppliers providing great quality goods at affordable prices.
But Mr Marletta says the deal would not be able to remain cheap if he needed more people to work at the pub.
He credited some of the pubs success to manager, Andrea Purdie, who is a significant character that locals love.
Mr Marletta said: “The customers all know Andrea, who’s a personality in here. Me, not so much. I’m the grumpy one.
“My staff have got a good vibe.”
UK’s cheapest kebab
BRITAIN'S cheapest doner kebab has been pulling in satisfied diners for 31 years.
Kebab Corner, in Bradford, West Yorkshire, sells its signature dish of doner and chips for just £4.
And the huge tasty portion has got food bloggers flocking to the cafe and now The Sun has sampled the meal and given it five stars for flavour and price.
Kebab Corner boss Mohammed Ummar, 39, runs the family business with his elder brother Mohammed Jawad, 41, and is proud of the low cost of the quality food.
The brothers took over in 2013 after Kebab Corner founder, their dad Mohammed Hanif, 73, retired from the eatery he established in the Oastler Shopping Centre, Bradford, in 1993.
Mohammed said: “Kebab Corner has evolved over the years but our secret home made mint sauce and red chilli sauce, which the customers love, have remained unchanged for 31 years.
“We have so many regulars, and we also attract new customers with our pricing. We have a lot of professionals, doctors and so on, who come on a Saturday when they are not working.
“We get different people on different days of the week.”
When The Sun visited on Tuesday lunchtime it was popular with mothers and children.
