The White Sox Asking Price For Garrett Crochet Has Been Revealed

When the White Sox drafted Hagen Smith with the 5th pick in last week’s draft, it essentially let everyone know that the plan will be to trade Garrett Crochet before the deadline. Whether that will be the right move remains to be seen, but Chris Getz seems intent on moving Crochet.

With the season Crochet is having, it seems the White Sox will get themselves a haul in a trade, as not only is Crochet an all-star, he also has 2.5 years left on his contract, making him significantly more valuable.

Since he is such a valuable asset to any team, many have wondered what it would take to acquire Crochet in a trade, as it is not going to be cheap. Just because Chris Getz wants to trade him doesn’t mean he will take any offer, as he has all the leverage in a trade, as the White Sox can hold onto Crochet until the offseason. Getz showed patience in trading Dylan Cease, so he is not afraid to wait to get an offer he is satisfied with.

According to recent reports, the asking price for Crochet is hefty, as Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated reveals what the asking price is thought to be.

In his recent article, Ragazzo reports that:

In this case, Chicago is believed to be asking for at least two controllable major league players or close to big-league ready pieces, and two top five prospects in a deal for just Crochet.

This would be an absolute haul for Crochet and if the White Sox get anything near to this kind of offer, it might be worth trading Crochet for.

In the case of the Dodgers, who are showing heavy interest, they could provide a solid haul. A deal would likely revolve around either Dalton Rushing or Josue De Paula as the headliner, plus one of the three pitchers in the top five of their 30 best prospects.

That would satisfy the prospect part of the trade, and on top of that would likely have to throw in someone like Andy Pages, a 23 year old outfielder with a lot of potential. If the report is true, the Dodgers would likely have to throw another player in the deal to get the White Sox to accept. Luckily for the White Sox, the Dodgers have plenty of talent, so figuring out a fourth player in a deal shouldn’t be too hard.

The Dodgers could easily meet that asking price and could put together one of the best offers in the league. The Orioles are another team that could match the Dodgers, as they have an endless amount of high-end position player prospects.

While it may be smart to keep Crochet and build around him, if the White Sox were able to get a haul close to what the reported asking price is, a deal may be hard to turn down, as it could make the White Sox significantly more well-rounded.
