However, a good quality sun hat doesn’t come cheap.

That’s something telly star Billie Faiers knows all too well, after it was revealed on the mum-of-three’s show that she has an endless stash of them in her loft.

The Family Diaries star even joked that she takes loads of hats on holiday with her but doesn’t wear them all.

Lucky for us, we can get a strong cost-per-wear ratio on a straw sun hat if we turn to River Island

The high-street store has slashed a number of £25 styles to just £4.

That’s a whopping £21 saving.

And if you wear it everyday of your seven day holiday, then it’s only going to cost you 57p a day to rock.

One savvy shopper took to Facebook to shout about the reductions.

They found a “few different styles” for various low prices at River Island’s Bullring, Birmingham store.

Straw sun hats come in various designs and sizes, from classic wide-brimmed hats to trendy fedoras.

Their natural, rustic look adds a stylish and elegant touch to outfits, making them perfect for casual beach wear to dinners by the sea.

Another celebrity known to love the style is Fool Me Once and former Corrie beauty, Michelle Keegan.

She rocked various straw sun hats on her holiday in the Amalfi Coast, Italy last summer.

Straw sun hats can be significantly more sustainable than other high-street options, given it’s genuine straw and not polyester.

How to look chic on a budget

Fashion stylist Gemma Rose Breger, and beauty journalist Samantha Silver revealed how you can make your outfits elevated without spending hundreds of pounds.

  1. Don’t ever spend on designer denim: River Island ”always has such a great selection of fashion-forward jeans that follow the current trends”. The high street retailer offers a great range of sizes to fit UK 6 – UK 18, and three leg lengths – and prices start from an affordable £25.
  2. There are no rules for jewels: ”Pick up something at a car boot sale, or charity shop, scroll on Vinted & eBay, snap up something from the clothing section in your local supermarket when doing the food shop or check out high street clothing stores.”
  3. Don’t forget the pre-loved sites: With a rising number of second-hand sites, such as Vinted and Depop, there’s no excuse for not buying – or selling – pre-loved garments. Gemma, for instance, has managed to get her hands on chic Chanel sunnies for a mere £17.

Straw is a renewable resource and hats made from it are biodegradable, making them an environmentally friendly choice compared to synthetic alternatives.

What’s more, the production of straw hats involves minimal chemical processing which duly reduced environmental impact.

The style is also durable and built to last through multiple summers.

Quality straw hats can withstand outdoor conditions, providing long-lasting protection and style – what more could you want?
