So when her sister-in-law decided to gift her own wedding dress from two years previously.

“Everyone began clapping as my sister-in-law announced that this was her official wedding gift to us and she wanted to me to wear her dress at the wedding,” the woman explained on Reddit.

“I tried to smile but I guess I didn’t do a good job of hiding my disappointment and everyone began asking me what was wrong.”

Although she tried to explain that she already had a dress, which had been been “passed down for generations”, the family didn’t understand why she didn’t accept the gift.

Her sister-in-law didn’t take the rejection well and “burst into tears” over the ordeal, and even her fiancé thought she should just wear the dress.

“He sounded so mad and he even said he couldn’t believe he chose to marry such a “b****y c**t”,” she explained.

Things went from bad to worse when he slated her mum’s dress, and said it looked like “an old rag” compared the his sister’s more modern gown.

“I tried to tell him how much my mothers wedding dress meant to me because I promised her that I would wear it,” she said.

After explaining the situation fellow Reddit users urged her to call of the wedding.

“You just had a peak into your future if you carry on with this relationship, you need to leave that whole family behind, including your fiancé,” one wrote.

A second agreed it was time to call it quits, they commented: “No honestly. It’s great she isn’t married to him yet too. The whole family was also trying to manipulate her.

“She would have become a punching bag for all of them. Imagine he calls her this for not wearing the dress. What other stuff will he be capable of doing. This is madness. She needs exit now!!”

Updating users on the situation, the bride-to-be wrote another post a day later – and revealed she’s calling off the wedding.

I haven’t felt so disrespected in my life.”

“I’m leaving him for sure now,” she said.

“I did end up making him sit down with me a few hours ago to talk about things and have an adult conversation.

“He was very dismissive and was just scrolling on his phone for a majority of the time,” she continued.

In fact, he still didn’t see her side of things and maintained that she was “being selfish”.

But when he tried to fix the situation by compromising that she could wear her mum’s dress to the ceremony on his sister’s dress for the reception she knew it was no use arguing.

“I admit I kind of lost it because he said it as if I needed PERMISSON to wear MY WEDDING DRESS on MY WEDDING DAY. I haven’t felt so disrespected in my life.

“I’ve just been sitting inside our bedroom and I’m pretty sure things are over after this.”

People praised her for calling it quits sooner rather than later.

“You need to keep the ring and dump the family, sounds like you’ve dodged a bullet,” one said.

And another agreed: “I’m so glad you’re not wasting your mum’s wedding dress on a man like that.”
