The seaside town with the cheapest parking in Britain has been revealed as drivers pay just £2.50 for a day out on a golden beach.
Thousands are expected to flock to the seaside this weekend as staycationers sizzle in 31C heat today.
The Met Office is predicting highs into the late 20’s across the nation today, with the best of the weather in the South East.
However, just getting onto the sand can hit you hard in the wallet thanks to high season parking charges.
In the most expensive hotspots, a six hour stay could set you back in the region of £20.
Fortunately, research from Compare The Market has found some underappreciated destinations that can offer drivers a bargain day out.
Barry in Wales has been named the cheapest seaside resort for parking in Britain.
The town and associated island, beloved as the setting of legendary comedy Gavin and Stacey, offers six hours of parking at an average of just £2.50.
Visitors can use the money they save to enjoy the beach and the famous arcade or visit some of the sites from the iconic show, as well as some episodes of Doctor Who.
But if you live on the eastern side of the country, it’s still good news as Lowestoft, Suffolk, claimed second place at £3.15.
Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex, came in just behind at £3.43 to round out the top three.
All is not lost for holidaymakers in the North, though, with Wallasey on Merseyside and Cleethorpes in Lancashire also making the top five.
Other spots including Worthing, Dover and Great Yarmouth all offer a day’s parking for under £5 on average.
However, the expert team also found that many of these destinations were heavily underrated.
The site’s rankings for the most popular beaches found that Bournemouth came out on top, despite being fifth most expensive in a study conducted by Motorscan at £10.42 for eight hours.
It comes after a marine conservation charity revealed the 24 beaches Brits must avoid this summer.
