Pirated-themed English water park that’s been called a tropical paradise with one of UK’s fastest log flumes

WATER PARKS are the perfect way to cool off at the weekend, and they’re also a great place to head with the family for some fun.

One of those places is the Calypso Cove Waterpark in Barnsley, an indoor water park, which has been likened to a tropical paradise by visitors.

The little-known water park has a variety of slides and pools, an interactive splash zone, a wave machines, as well as areas for younger visitors.

Travel website Days Out with the Kids recently wrote about the water park, they said: “Calypso Cove Barnsley is more than just a waterpark; it’s a mini-tropical paradise right in the heart of South Yorkshire.

“Whether you’re a thrill-seeker, a gentle floater, or somewhere in between, Calypso Cove has something for everyone.

“From twisty water slides and indoor flumes to interactive splash features and swimming pools galore.”

The Barnsley-based water park is home to one of the fastest indoor flumes in the country.

Called Terror Torrent, the adrenaline-inducing slide is set inside a pitch black interior, making it perfect for older children and adults.

There are plenty of other slides at the water park, including Eruption, Kraken and the Sunken Galleon, all of which have a pirate theme.

On the Sunken Galleon, visitors will can slide into the shallow end of the pull and play with other features like water canons and tipping buckets.

There’s also Splash Ahoy – a four-lane open slide where families can race each other to the bottom.

Other features geared towards older children and adults include a set of two dive boards.

For younger children, and any less confident swimmers, there’s also Barnacle Bay, which is packed with interactive features like a tiny slide and a splash zone.

Entry tickets cost £12 for a full-paying adult and £10 for children aged between three and 10.

Calypso Cove Waterpark has been praised by visitors on Google, with a 4.3/5 star rating from more than 4,300 reviews.

One person wrote: “A great place to take the family, perfect all ages, we’ve been going for years with all our kids.”

Someone else said: “The wave pool was great and the slides were exciting, we had non-stop fun.”

And another simply wrote: “Great waterpark”.

Calypso Cove Waterpark is a 40-minute drive from Sheffield, and it’s a 90-minute drive from Manchester.

There are plenty of other indoor waterparks in the UK for Brit holidaymakers to visit.

Sandcastle Waterpark, Blackpool

Sandcastle Waterpark in Blackpool is the largest indoor water park in the UK.

It has 18 slides, including the longest indoor rollercoaster water slide in the world, the Master Blaster.

Other water rides include the Sidewinder, which has an almost vertical drop, and the Montazooma, which takes parkgoers along hairpin turns.

Guests can even rent VIP Tiki Cabins for the entire day, and temperatures remain a tropical 84 degrees all year round.

Alton Towers Waterpark, Staffordshire

The water park at Alton Towers is attached to the much-loved theme park, with entry often included in ticket deals.

Set inside the Splash Landing Hotel, the Caribbean lagoon has lazy rivers, a Masterblaster wet rollercoaster, log flumes, slides, and hot tubs.

Day passes are just £17.50 when they’re booked in advance online.

Five new water attractions opening in the UK next year

  1. Therme Manchester will have 25 swimming pools, 25 water slides and an indoor beach.
  2. Modern Surf Manchester will be a surfing lagoon offering lessons to both beginners and experts.
  3. Chessington World of Adventures waterpark is set to have wave, infinity and spa pools as well as waterslides and cabanas.
  4. The Cove Resort, Southport is likely to have a water lagoon and a thermal spa with steam rooms and saunas.
  5. The Seahive, Deal plans to be the “surfing wellness resort” in the UK.

And here are some other water parks in the UK you should visit, including a huge new £250million attraction opening in 2025.

There are also plenty of water parks in Europe, including Livu Akvapark in Latvia and Energylandia in Poland.
