GREENVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A great horned owl is now back in the wild after it was rescued from a soccer net in Greene County. On June 29, a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officer went to Ararat Youth and Conference Center in Greenville to free the bird.

Once there, he saw the owl stuck in the net and struggling to free itself. Using a pair of scissors, the officer cut the net from around the bird and safely removed them. The owl was taken to Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center in Hunter for a health evaluation.

After about a week, the owl was in good health and was able to be released back into the wild. The owl was brought back to where it was originally rescued and released. You can view a video of the release in the player above.
