‘What the heck made them think that was OK?’ people say after teacher shares a parent’s outrageous demand
TEACHERS often get a lot of praise for the hardships they can encounter working with young children.
However, sometimes, it’s not the kids who are the problem but the parents.
She had been invited to the party[/caption]That’s what happened to one teacher in the US who shared her experience on TikTok.
Taking to the social media platform, the woman, who posts under the username @ktlarson27, explains how one of the children in her class had a birthday party coming up and their parent had asked for the class list.
She then says the parent handed her invitations soon after and she was going to put them in the youngsters’ mailboxes.
However, she then realised only a few of them had been written.
“I open them up [to find] only the first invitation was written in,” she says.
“That parent messaged me during the day with the information and I thought that was for me because I was invited.
“No, I was expected to write all the invitations.”
She added none of the invitations had been “stuffed” in their envelopes.
People took to the comments to share how ridiculous they thought the situation was.
“I was out at ‘the envelopes weren’t stuffed” What the heck made a parent think that was OK?” said one person.
Another wrote: “My flabber was ghasted. What on earth?!?”
“The fact that parents think teachers have time to address and stuff party invitations.
“Absolutely NOT [clapping hands emoji] The audacity is loud,” a third penned.
Someone else questioned: “Is she going to make you help at the party if you go?”
A fifth commented: “Why… why ask for the class list if you’re not going to address them and send them out?”
Some fellow teachers also took to the comments to share their experiences with what parents expected of them.
Average kid's birthday cost for parents
According to a new study from the UK’s leading money-saving brand, Voucher Cloud, has revealed that over two thirds of British parents throw their children a birthday party every single year - and the costs can be high.
- Average spend on party – £320.50
- Average spend on presents – £175.80
“The fact that parents think teachers have time to address and stuff party invitations. We don’t have time to use the BATHROOM ma’am!!!” one said.
Another wrote: “I had a parent show up with party bags, party games, party food and ask when their child’s class party was scheduled so they could come back for it [cringing emoji].”
A third commented: “I once had a parent send in a whole birthday cake, no plates, no napkins, no forks, no knife!”
“Same thing happened to me!
“And then the day of, the mom sent an email to me cancelling the party and told me to tell the kids and their parents to just drop off the presents on the front porch…” a fourth penned.
