'It was insane to me': Undecided voters express shock after watching Trump RNC speech

Former President Donald Trump's rambling address at the Republican National Convention on Thursday evening bewildered many voters who say that they are still undecided about whom to support in the 2020 presidential election.

In interviews with The New York Times, undecided voters said that Trump's RNC address did little to sway their opinion of him, even as they still cannot commit to voting for the Democratic presidential ticket.

21-year-old Arnel Ramos, a food service worker from Milwaukee, found the speech particularly disorienting, according to the Times.

"You read a lot of stuff about what this guy says, but to actually sit down and hear it and sit through it, it was just insane to me,” she said. “That’s the only way I can describe this whole ordeal.”

She said that she was particularly disturbed by the way he linked immigrants to destruction and disease, and found it strange that he described the nation as being on the brink of "World War III."

77-year-old Sharon Reed, who had previously voted for Trump, watched the speech hoping that he would be more unifying "but then he got on his high horse there at the end.”

The bottom line, said Reed, is "I still don't know what I'm going to do."

60-year-old Kristen Morris, who had voted for Biden in 2020 but who is wary of him due to his apparent cognitive decline, expressed anger after the speech about the choice she was facing.

"I'm still in disbelief that this is the best America can do," she said. "I'm just flabbergasted."

41-year-old Sara Khalsa, who voted for Biden in 2020 but is holding off on backing him due to his support for Israel in its war against Hamas in Gaza, also said Trump did nothing to win her over and was particularly annoyed at how the convention used the failed assassination attempt against Trump to deify him.

“It’s just propaganda,” she said. “I’m against violence, but it’s just annoying they can make it look like he’s a hero.”
