Richmond: Man charged with murder in cousin’s death during family gathering

Images and video were circulated on social media, depicting the party and the shooting victims lying in a pool of blood, which helped police identify a suspect.

RICHMOND — A man who reportedly fled to Nebraska after killing his cousin has been arrested and charged with murder, court records show.

Arcenio Fernandez Marquez, 30, was charged with murder in the death of Elizander Narvaez-Fernandez, 26, and one count of assault on a firearm against a surviving victim of the June 23 Richmond shooting. The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 3400 block of Richmond Parkway.

Police say that Fernandez Marquez and Narvaez-Fernandez are cousins and that the shooting was the culmination of a complicated family dispute. After the shooting, several videos and pictures from the gathering were posted to social media, including one picture showing Narvaez-Fernandez lying, dead, on the concrete next to the surviving victim. Authorities say the content aided them in identifying Fernandez Marquez as a suspect.

After the shooting, Fernandez Marquez reportedly fled to Nebraska and was arrested there. He has been extradited back to California and is next due in court on July 29 for an arraignment hearing, court records show.

In the meantime, Fernandez Marquez remains jailed in Contra Costa with bail set at $2.2 million, records show.
