Shots fired, fire started in Cully townhouse as police lead standoff with man inside

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A man is in custody after a possible shooting and apartment fire within a Cully neighborhood residence Friday morning.

Officers first responded to reports of shots inside the townhouse near 4200 NE Cully Boulevard around 9:39 a.m. However, police said the man who may have fired the shots refused to come outside.

A Community Emergency Response Team set up a perimeter around the apartment and asked residents in the area to stay inside. Details of the shooting remain unclear, though officials say the man seemed to be alone.

By 12:25 p.m., the apartment was set on fire from the second floor and flames began to enter the attic area. Portland Fire and Rescue responded to put out the flames as police brought the man into custody.

Authorities say they believe the man was somehow related to the start of the fire.
