Kate Hudson Doesn’t Believe in Deodorant

If you were a production assistant on the set of the 2008 rom-com Fool’s Gold, you might be entitled to compensation. Apparently, the aromas floating around the soundstage were, to be polite, natural. Kate Hudson was on Watch What Happens Live this week and clarified some things about her relationship to both deodorant and Matthew McConaughey’s body odor.

“Was that old urban legend true that you forced Matthew McConaughey to wear deodorant while filming Fool’s Gold?” Andy Cohen asked.

“No,” Hudson replied, a little shocked. At this point, it seemed as if she might say something like, “That would be so rude!” or “I don’t know how these rumors get started.” Instead, she turned left and clarified that the smell did not bother her.

“He doesn’t wear deodorant, and, by the way, I don’t either,” the actress explained. “My thing was I could smell him from a mile [away], because we were so close! We’re au naturels.”

Listen: It’s summer right now. It seems as though every week there’s a new heat wave. Do not be inspired by Kate Hudson. You, a civilian, do not have the charm to pull off the “au naturel” vibe that she and McConaughey are putting out there. Please wear deodorant — and not the natural kind. These rich hippies live a climate-controlled lifestyle; you ride the subway with your fellow man. If someone can smell you from a mile away, it will not be a fun late-night anecdote. You will become “the person in the office who smells.”
