'He screwed it up': Legal expert pounces on Trump lawyer's flub in classified docs appeal

Former President Donald Trump's legal team is headed to court to face special counsel Jack Smith after the prosecutor appealed a Florida judge's dismissal of the classified documents case.

However, the former president's lawyers made a mistake in their latest filing involving the case.

On Monday, Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the case, which involves the storage of classified documents in Trump's Mar-a-Lago home, on the grounds that Smith's appointment was unconstitutional.

Smith appealed on Thursday.

Legal analyst and podcaster Allison Gill pointed out a fumble by Trump lawyer Emil Bove.

Each attorney must file a notice of appearance with the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals stating that they will be appearing on behalf of the client. On Friday, Justice Department lawyer James Pearce filed his notice of appearance for the government.

"Trump's lawyer Bove filed one, too, but he screwed it up and had to re-file because he used someone else's account," Gill posted in her comment.

"Notice of deficient Appearance of Counsel filed by Emil Bove for Donald J. Trump. An attorney may not electronically file through another person's ECF account," the court said on Thursday.
