Red carpet interviews with Rob McElhenney, Wrexham AFC players and more at Wrex Coast Tour kick-off event [WATCH]

On Thursday, July 18, STōK Cold Brew Coffee hosted a red carpet cocktail event in celebration of Wrexham AFC Men and Women’s teams upcoming 2024 Wrex Coast Tour, which will see the men’s team return to the US and, for the first time, Wrexham AFC Women travel Stateside. The 2024 Wrex Coast Tour consists of a series of six highly anticipated summer tour matches. Gold Derby associate editor Latasha Ford was there to speak with the athletes as well as team co-chairman and Emmy-winning producer of “Welcome to Wrexham,” Rob McElhenney. The “Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star, Wrexham AFC Men’s Manager Phil Parkinson, and Stok Cold Brew Coffee Vice President of Beverages, Brittney Polka made appearances at the exclusive cocktail party in honor of Wrexham AFC Men and Women’s teams, as seen on the hit TV show “Welcome to Wrexham.” Wrexham AFC CEO Michael Williamson, Head of Wrexham AFC Women’s Football Operations Gemma Owen, Wrexham AFC Director Shaun Harvey, Wrexham AFC Executive Director Humphrey Ker, and The Turf wner Wayne Jones were also in attendance.

The event comes on the heels of “Welcome to Wrexham” garnering 6 Emmy nominations on Wednesday, July 17th. “Welcome to Wrexham” was nominated in the categories of  “Best Cinematography For A Reality Program,” “Best Directing For A Reality Program,” ”Best Picture Editing For An Unstructured Reality Program,” “Best Unstructured Reality Program,” “Best Sound Editing For A Nonfiction Or Reality Program” and “Best Sound Mixing For A Reality Program.”

Wrexham Association Football Club is based in Wrexham, North Wales, and competes in League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league pyramid. For the 2024/25 season, Wrexham will compete in League One – the third tier – after securing a second consecutive promotion. Formed in 1864, they are the oldest club in Wales and the third oldest professional team in the world. Wrexham has won the Welsh Cup a record 23 times and beaten some of the biggest clubs in the game in the English FA Cup and UEFA European Cup Winners Cup. The STōK Cae Ras, home to Wrexham AFC, is the world’s oldest international stadium that still continues to host international games.

Wrexham AFC is owned by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. The goal of the new owners is to grow the team and establish Wrexham AFC as a Premier League club in front of increased attendances, and in an improved stadium, while making a positive difference to the wider community in Wrexham. This goal is being pursued through four guiding principles: i) to protect the heritage of Wrexham AFC; ii) to reinforce the values of the community; iii) to use Rob and Ryan’s resources to grow the exposure of the club at home and abroad; and iv) to create a winning culture.
