KC man pleads guilty for 2021 crash that killed Wichita man after Chiefs game

A 21-year-old Kansas City man has pleaded guilty in the death of a Wichita man following a Kansas City Chiefs game in October of 2021.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 21-year-old Kansas City, Missouri man has pleaded guilty in the death of a Wichita man following a Kansas City Chiefs game in October of 2021.

Thomas Weyer plead guilty in Jackson County court to leaving the scene of an accident, resulting in death.

A Jackson County judge suspended a four year sentence, but is requiring Weyer to do 30 days shock time in jail. He'll then serve five years probation, including 90 days of electronic monitoring when he's released.

Weyer is accused of hitting Steve Hickle, 66, a Wichita man who was attending a Chiefs game with his wife on Oct. 10, 2021. Weyer is accused of hitting Hickle with his SUV on a road near Arrowhead Stadium after the Chiefs game against Buffalo.

Laurie Hickle said she was only 10 feet away from her husband when he was hit. Court documents show Hickle told Kansas City police she watched as the next two cars rolled over Hickle.

He died of his injuries. The driver of the first car didn’t stop after it collided with Hickle on a rainy night at the Truman Sports Complex.

Prosecutors alleged Weyer was driving the first vehicle and did not stop.

Weyer will begin his jail time August 1.
