2024 Emmys: Best Drama Guest Actor episode submissions for all 5 nominees

Who will win the 2024 Emmy Award for Best Drama Guest Actor? This year’s five nominees are Nestor Carbonell (“Shōgun”), Paul Dano (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”), Tracy Letts (“Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty”), Jonathan Pryce (“Slow Horses”) and John Turturro (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”). Below, see the nominees’ all-important episode submissions and descriptions from the TV academy’s nominating ballot that the voters will be watching as examples of their best work from the season.

Nominations for the 2024 Emmys were unveiled on Wednesday, July 17 and the winners will be announced on September 7 and 8 (Creative Arts ceremonies) and September 15 (Primetime ceremony). As a reminder, last year’s winner in this category was Nick Offerman (“The Last of Us”) for the episode “Long, Long Time.”

Nestor Carbonell as Rodriguez on “Shōgun”
Episode: “Anjin”
Ballot description: “Rodrigues,” a Spanish pilot sailing for the Portuguese, is the first to introduce Blackthorne to the beauty and intrigues of “the Japans.” When violent storms rock their ship, Rodrigues goes overboard, and is rescued only at Blackthorne’s insistence. This won’t stop Rodrigues from turning him over to his Portuguese enemies.

Paul Dano as Hot Neighbor on Mr. & Mrs. Smith”
Episode: “A Breakup”
Ballot description: After letting injured neighbor John into his house, Hot Neighbor finds himself explaining, with a gun pointed at him, why he has a floorplan of John and Jane’s house and secret photos of them. Hot Neighbor explains that he’s a divorced Sotheby’s real estate analyst who lusts for their house.

Tracy Letts as Jack McKinney on “Winning Time: The Rise Of The Lakers Dynasty”
Episode: “The New World”
Ballot description: After Earvin’s record-setting contract reaches the press, resentments flair in the locker room – and extend to the court. As the Lakers fight for league standing, Buss looks to take his relationship with Honey to the next level, while Pat questions his role, and Coach Westhead meets an old friend.

Episode: “Footprints”
Ballot description: David Cartwright is former First Desk and legend of MI5, and Grandfather to River.

John Turturro as Eric Shane on “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”
Episode: “Second Date”
Ballot description: Real estate mogul Eric Shane is the target of John and Jane’s new mission. When they get him alone at a silent auction, they inadvertently inject him with a double dose of truth serum, leading to an embarrassing public display. Whisked away to their home, Eric dies from the overdose.
