“Weird Al” Yankovic has a new mandatory polka and video for 10 years of Mandatory Fun
As hard as it is to believe, “Weird Al” Yankovic’s final album, Mandatory Fun, came out 10 years ago. Aside from proving the “2014 was the last good year” theory, the album also allowed “Weird Al” a proper sendoff. In addition to becoming his first number-one album, Mandatory Fun was the first comedy album in history to debut at number one on Billboard’s album charts. Take that, Larry The Cable Guy’s Lord, I Apologize. It also won the Weird One his fourth Grammy. Plus, it has that incredible CSNY pastiche, “Mission Statement,” one of his best originals and vocal performances.Though Yankovic hasn’t released a full album in a decade, he continues to write, record, and perform. He was even the subject of his own biopic in which Al is frequently mistaken for a hay boy. Daniel Radcliffe played him and everything. No seriously. It all happened on the Roku Channel, and it was really funny. You’ve got to believe us!Anyway, in the spirit of Mandatory Fun, Yankovic has some more mandatory fun in the form of a new polka medley, “Polkamania!” Unlike the album, filled with pop hits of the era and pastiche originals from across the radio dial, the accordionist tickles the keys to songs from across the decade. “Polkamania!” tackles Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers,” Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy,” Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” Adele’s “Hello,” Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off," and more. "Weird Al" fans will also finally hear their hero sing “WAP,” which has us laughing our heads off as we’re burning in hell.Check out the video and enjoy life with "Weird Al"’s version of “Vampire” rattling around your head for the rest of your life.
