Extreme weather to impact weekend plans around the PNW

Heat, haze, and the chance for lightning starting and spreading new fires has prompted a KOIN 6 Weather Alert this weekend.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Heat, haze and the chance for lightning starting and spreading new fires has prompted a KOIN 6 Weather Alert this weekend.

Summer temperatures return to the mid to upper 90s Saturday as skies become increasingly more hazy. Wildfire smoke from fires already burning around the state will move into the Willamette Valley. Decrease air quality might prevent sensitive groups from spending a prolonged amount of time outdoors.

The smoke and haze will continue through the end of the weekend. Sunday's extreme weather comes in the form of thunderstorms. Very little rain is expected with the isolated thunderstorms set to develop Sunday morning and afternoon. The thunderstorm threat will increase the wildfire potential around western Oregon and southwestern Washington Sunday.

Rain will have very little impact on Portland Pride Parade attendees. If anything, a few more clouds and a few fast moving showers will keep temperatures slightly cooler for the parade Sunday morning and afternoon. Sunday's weather will be more pleasant for the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival this weekend compared to the heat expected Saturday.
