‘It’s hideous’ mum-to-be slammed for ‘ridiculous’ name she wants for her daughter – as many warn it’s a ‘man’s name’

CHOOSING a baby name is no mean feat.

But it’s proving particularly hard for one mum-to-be, who was slammed for wanting to give her baby girl a “man’s name”.

The moniker is traditionally associated with an iconic Seventies singer.

But the bashed mum doesn’t want to name her daughter this in honour of the musical icon.

In fact, she and her husband are considering the name as an homage to Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde writer, Robert Louis Stevenson.

They want to name their little girl Stevie.

“I have two children called Louis and Robyn,” the mum explained on Mumsnet.

“My husband is a Robert Louis Stevenson lover, though the names of our children are coincidental.

“And he thinks it would be funny to name our daughter, due in November, Stevie as a funny little homage to his favourite author.

“While I have names I prefer, Stevie is growing on me – but I don’t know how common it is as a girl’s name and I don’t want her to be bullied.”

She did admit that their trilogy of names might be “ridiculous”, and was met with criticism to the same tune.

“Why would you do that?” one fellow Mumsnet user slammed.

“No one is going to meet her and know she is named after a male author.

“They’re going to wonder why you gave her a boy’s name or what it is short for.”

“Stevie is hideous,” another penned. “Steve is bad enough for a man.”

Another key warning for the expecting parents was that everyone would think they’d named their baby after Stevie Wonder

  • Royal
  • Atticus
  • Ori
  • Starlette
  • Snowdrop
  • Kahlani

“Even Stevie Nicks’s real name isn’t Stevie – it’s Stephanie,” one critic said.

“Don’t call a girl Stevie, for f**k sake.

“All people will think of is Stevie Wonder.

“That’s where my mind went straight away.”

However, some Mumsnet users dubbed the name “super cool” and urged the expecting mum to “go for it”.

Supporters of the moniker also assured her that her little girl “won’t get teased at school”, with many of them knowing female Stevies that have lived a teasing-free life.
