Amazon quickly swaps title of that distressingly "timely" Boys finale to "Season 4 Finale"

When is "timely" "too timely"? As our own Saloni Gajjar noted in her recap of the show's finale this week, Amazon's The Boys has spent this entire season—what with its focus on a fractious presidential campaign centered in a divided America—walking in the shadow of current American politics, pretty much by design. But even the streamer's most deliberately provocative show has apparently hit its limits on how timely it wants to be, with IGN reporting that the episode previously titled "Assassination Run" has now been re-titled "Season 4 Finale" for what are, presumably, obvious reasons.In addition to the name change, The Boys' team also attached a disclaimer to the episode, writing that, "The season finale of The Boys contains scenes of fictional political violence, which some viewers may find disturbing, especially in light of the injuries and tragic loss of life sustained during the assassination attempt on former President Trump." View this post on Instagram A post shared by THE BOYS (@theboystv)The statement (which has also been posted to Instagram) goes on to say that, "The Boys is a fictitious series that was filmed in 2023, and any scene or plotline similarities to these real-world events are coincidental and unintentional." (We could quibble on that point, given how heavily the show has steered into what pretty much everyone in 2023 knew was going to be a fairly harrowing election cycle, but we understand the basic gist/requirement they're wrestling with there.) The disclaimer concludes by saying, "Amazon, Sony Pictures Television, and the producers of The Boys reject, in the strongest terms, real-world violence of any kind," so, hey, if you were going to do something horrific because you thought the creators of The Boys (or, god help us, Amazon) wanted you to, now you know you shouldn't. That's good!
