11 golfers (Rory McIlroy!) who shockingly missed the cut at The Open
Rory McIlroy may have been the biggest name to miss the cut this week at The Open, but he was far from the only surprising one.
It was just a month ago that Rory McIlory completed the most epic meltdown of his career at the U.S. Open, missing two putts within three feet on the final three holes to choke away the major victory. And anyone who thought the stench of that horror show would linger over the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon, well, it turns out they were absolutely right.
After finishing T6 and solo third at The Open in 2023 and 2022, respectively, McIlroy went 78-75 over the first two rounds in Scotland this week to miss the cut line at 11-over-par. BetMGM had Rory -900 to make the cut and +450 to miss it before Thursday.
But if misery loves company, McIlory can take solace in some of these other big names who are heading home before the weekend while Shane Lowry and Daniel Brown attempt to stay on top of the leaderboard.
