Brighton ‘reject £8million bid from European giants Billy Gilmour’ as ex-Chelsea manager tries to re-sign midfielder

BRIGHTON have reportedly rejected a bid for Billy Gilmour from Napoli.

The Serie A giants are now being managed by former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte who is keen on a reunion with the midfielder.

The Italian manager coached the Scotland international during his spell at Stamford Bridge.

TalkSPORT has reported that Napoli have made an offer worth £8million for Gilmour.

However, that bid has been rejected by the Seagulls.

The report does suggest that a deal is still there to be done with a price of £12m believed to be enough to push through a transfer.

Gilmour, 23, joined Brighton and Hove Albion in 2022 on a four-year deal from Chelsea and became a regular in the team.

He has gone on to make 58 appearances for the club without scoring a single goal.

Gilmour never played for the Blues under Conte as he was in the club’s academy while the manager was in the role.

Conte has already been hard at work recruiting at Naples following his appointment earlier this summer.

He has seen the arrivals of Torino defender Alessandro Buogiorno, Rafa Marin from Real Madrid and Roma’s Leonardo Spinazzola.

Gilmour is not the only player with a Chelsea connection that Conte is interested in.

Romelu Lukaku is also as target as the Belgian is not wanted at Stamford Bridge following loan spells at Inter Milan and Roma.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the striker is willing to reduce his salary to seal a move to Naples.

Lukaku, 31, is believed to be on a weekly wage of £178,000-per-week but would accept a new salary of £96,000-per-week.
