'Painfully small' turnout for MTG book signing as MAGA fans give her the cold shoulder

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) may be a go-to for reporters looking for a juicy quote as they cover the run-up to the 2024 election but her star has fallen when it comes to the MAGA hordes who once adored her.

On the same day that Donald Trump was making his acceptance speech at the recently concluded Republican National Convention before a packed hall, the controversial Georgia Republican scheduled a book signing for her book, simply titled "MTG," hours before and found few takers leading her to quickly scurry away.

According to a report from Salon's Amanda Marcotte, the under-attended signing was a sign of Taylor Greene's waning popularity with the base.

As she wrote, "The once-soaring MAGA star was facing down a painfully small crowd at the signing of her book "MTG." Just before the trollish congresswoman was scheduled to arrive, a group of red-clad workers busied themselves with building big stacks of Greene's hardcover, published in November 2023. But only a few American flag-festooned folks had lined up."

Adding the Georgia congresswoman finally showed up only to find a skimpy line waiting for her, Marcotte reports, "When she finally rolled in at 3 PM, Greene took one look at the underwhelming crowd, muttered something to her entourage and then quickly hid in a nearby room."

As she noted, it got worse.

"Eventually, some attendees did swing by, curious about what had drawn the press," Marcotte wrote. "This added enough people to pull Greene out of hiding. Still, as we left, we spied a volunteer in a red shirt, offering people free copies as bait to draw them to Greene's table."

According to Marcotte, the writing seems to have been on the wall for Taylor Greene who was "shunted" to an RNC speaking spot on Monday, "the holding dock for the figures the party least wished to highlight."

Earlier this year, the Daily Beast reported that it is entirely possible that Taylor Greene's book may have not made her a penny since she failed to report any royalty income from it.

As the Beast's Mini Racker reported, "It is certainly possible that Greene’s memoir didn’t sell well enough to make money last year. Members of Congress are prohibited from receiving advances on royalties, so they have to depend on profits from copies sold. Greene’s book came out in late November and has only a handful of reviews on Amazon dated before the new year."
