Rooftop poetry under the full moon

As July’s bright and captivating full moon makes its grand appearance in the night sky a local NGO organises a poetry night in Nicosia with eight exceptional young poets. Two poets from abroad and six from Cyprus will step onto the rooftop of ARTos House in Ayioi Omologites to share their poetry on July 24. The event is free to attend and will be a bilingual literary happening with works presented in Greek and English.

This will be the 3rd Versopolis – Panselinos in Cyprus, organised by NGO Ideogramma, part of the European Versopolis Platform. Ideogramma has been involved in Versopolis actions since 2019, supporting emerging Cyprus poets who are represented on the poetry and literature platform. This summer, it will once again dedicate a night to poetry, enhancing the voices of emerging poets.

Performing on the evening will be Vanhauwaert from Belgium, Patryk Kosenda from Polland, and Alexandros Chronides, Andreas Timotheou, Avgi Lilli, Constantinos Papageorgiou, Pavlos Andreou and Tuğçe Tekhanli from Cyprus. The poets will read their work in their original language while translations in English and/or Greek will either be read or projected on a screen, making it easy for audiences of all backgrounds to follow.

Following the poetry readings, the visiting poets will be asked questions by the Cyprus poets on their poems and work and this conversation will happen in English. Handed out throughout the event will also be two poetry collections book by the visiting poets which they will be able to sign at the end of the event.
