Yves Bissouma scored his first-ever goal for Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly win over QPR, and while the midfielder was pleased with himself, his manager Ange Postecoglou quickly reminded him to keep his feet on the ground.
Bissouma scores great goal against QPR
In a 2-0 win over QPR in pre-season on Saturday, Bissouma gave Spurs the lead in the first half with a wonderfully-worked team goal.
Picking up the ball in the middle of the park, Bissouma feigned past his man, played the ball to Dejan Kulusevski, and received it once again in the box. The Malian then took it around the keeper to slot home with great composure.
Speaking to Tottenham Hotspur’s official channels after the game, Bissouma was delighted with his goal, saying: “It was fantastic. I’m really happy because we’ve worked really hard this week to prepare for the game.
“I’m happy to get my first goal for the club, and hopefully there’s more to come. I have to stay focused, this is only pre-season… I feel very good, much better, my mind is good. I’m trying to prepare myself to start the season very strong, and finish it strong, that’s important for me.”
During the interview, Postecoglou walked past and couldn’t resist making a little joke about Bissouma’s goal, reminding him, “It was only a friendly, Biss.”
Spurs have a good group
When asked about the mood within the squad, Bissouma added: “We have a lot of young players as well, so I’m one of the oldest now, and I’m trying to give something to them now because I think that’s important.
“We are all working hard. Old players, new players, trying to be where the coach wants us to be. Two games we’ve played now and you can see how we’re playing, see our process. But we want to do more, the coach wants more.”
Finally, discussing the upcoming tour of Asia, Bissouma insisted the hard work will not stop. He said: “Five days after we get back, the Premier League starts, and we know how hard the Premier League is. We’ll try to be ready for all the competitions; we have to be focused.”
