Rensselaer receives $150K for records management

The New York State Archives' 2024-2025 Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund awarded $150,000 to the city of Rensselaer for records management improvements.

RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The New York State Archives' 2024-2025 Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund awarded $150,000 to the city of Rensselaer for records management improvements. Over 2,600 cubic feet of paper records and 92 cubic feet of maps and plans from all departments in the city will be sorted, purged, boxed, labeled, and inventoried.

The records management initiative intends to keep an archive of personal and historical records while destroying obsolete ones. The city will store records until they aren't needed, improving accessibility to active records.

Mayor Michael Stammel said the grant will improve the city's efficiency and responsiveness. "We are hopeful that other grants that we have applied for are also approved and awarded. They would go a long way in enhancing many of the exciting projects that we have in the works for Rensselaer," Stammel said.
