I won £250k in People’s Postcode Lottery but broke down in front of colleagues… I thought I was in for £1k windfall

A NURSERY manager has told how she broke down in tears after scooping £250,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Emma couldn’t hold herself together despite being in front of two work colleagues after thinking she’d only get £1,000.

But the mum-of-one said she would have been ecstatic if she had only won a fraction of the amount as all she wanted was to be able to afford a bed with a built-in TV.

The winner said: “I was Googling beds last night because I thought if I got £1,000, I would get a new bed.

“This is amazing, incredible. I can’t even put it into words. It is crazy.

“To win £1,000 would have been amazing, but you see this kind of money on TV game shows.”

Emma had the shock of her life when she found out she had won the huge sum – and expressed a lot of disbelief.

She said: “It’s not sunk in at all yet. It just looks like a huge piece of paper I’ve been given with a huge number on it.”

Emma is also overjoyed that she and her partner can now finish completing the three-bed end terrace that they had started renovating May last year.

She said: The loft is still to be done, the garden needs landscaping and we’ve still to get some of the furnishings – the small things that make it a home.

“A lot of family along the way have helped us. It would be great to show our gratitude to them by repaying them.

“My parents helped us with the house and my partner’s parents have helped us renovate the house.

“There are so many people we have had support from.”

Emma plans on taking her two-year-old son to Disney on an extended family holiday to Florida with the winnings.

Still in shock, she exclaimed: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us. It’s insane.”

Her neighbours Yu and couple Andy and Helen also bagged the windfall after the DA1 4LR postcode won the Millionaire Street prize.

People’s Postcode Lottery is a subscription that raises money for various charities.

This means that not only do people win big, but good causes receive great funding.

It comes as other winners celebrate Post Code Lottery scoops on streets up and down the country.

Sue Lamb, in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, was “overwhelmed” when she discovered she’d scooped £142,000 just after Christmas – saying “it’s like having my children all over again”.

The winning grandparent shared the £1m jackpot with five neighbours.

Another dad on the street scooped a £142,000 lotto jackpot – and spent the money on his daughter.

Elsewhere, another couple who won £60,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery were able to double their winnings.

Susan and Colin Tallon from Warrington, Cheshire, were able to take home twice the £31,250 prize on a massive fluke while in Greater Manchester, more than 1,000 locals bagged themselves £3.2million.

How does Postcode Lottery work?

FOR those who want the chance to potentially win cash without having to physically buy a ticket, the Postcode Lottery subscription may be the answer.

Players sign up their postcode and pay £12 per month.

Subscribers are then automatically entered into each draw and then prizes are announced each day of the month.

33per cent of the ticket price also goes to charities.
