King and Queen were rushed to safety over ‘suspect on roof’ after Trump shooting
The royal couple were rushed indoors to a nearby hotel over the 'false alarm'.
The ‘false alarm’ which caused King Charles and Queen Camilla to be pulled away from an event on Jersey has been revealed.
It was reportedly due to a person seen on a roof as they were out on a public engagement in St Helier, Jersey.
The royal couple were whisked away from their walkabout and taken to a safe place.
At the time, the nature of the incident was not disclosed.
The Daily Express have now reported that it was because police and security saw a suspect on a roof overlooking Liberation Square, where the couple were.
After the suspect was questioned, it was ascertained that they were not a threat and the incident was a false alarm.
Security arrangements were a top concern as it happened days after Donald Trump was shot from a rooftop in an attempted assassination during a campaign rally.
Gunman Thomas Crooks scaled a nearby building and fired on the former president, coming close to killing him as a bullet grazed his ear. He killed audience member Corey Comperatore and also wounded two other men.
It led to questions about the security operation, and if there had been lapses from the Secret Service meaning the perimeter was not secured.
Camilla, 77, had been eating an ice cream when a member of the royal contingent whispered something to her on July 15.
Both she and Charles, 75, were then rushed away from the crowds and taken into the nearby Pomme d’Or hotel.
A full background check was carried out and the programme resumed shortly afterwards.
It was the King and Queen’s first visit to the Channel Islands off the north-west coast of France since the Coronation.
The King is now known as the Duke of Normandy there, dating from when William the Conqueror’s son, Henry I, seized the territory in 1106.
Crowds turned out to see them arrive in Jersey in a purple Bentley, and cheered and waved despite heavy showers.
