Postecoglou is impressed by the ‘whole attitude’ of one Spurs academy starlet – Journalist
According to Football London’s Alasdair Gold, Ange Postecoglou has been impressed with the ‘whole attitude’ of one of his academy starlets so far in pre-season.
Will Lankshear is impressing in pre-season
Another day, another report about how much Will Lankshear is impressing the Tottenham coaches in pre-season, just a week after signing a new five-year contract with the club.
After finishing as the PL2 top goalscorer and winning the Player of the Season award last time out, Will Lankshear has already kicked on during the first two weeks of pre-season training.
Rewarded for his efforts last season, Ange Postecoglou called the young striker up to take part in senior first-team training while a number of big-name stars are still away on their summer holidays.
Will Lankshear grabs his chance with both hands
It was reported this week that Lankshear has been the most impressive young striker in training so far this summer, which is why he was given the nod to start the second half of the friendly against Hearts over the likes of Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett (Football London).
Lankshear repaid the faith almost instantly, putting Tottenham ahead in the match by rifling the ball into the bottom corner – Harry Kane style.
It appears Postecoglou has been impressed with the teenager’s attitude, especially after Lankshear was sent back to the U21s to play a game last week despite training with the first team.
Gold said: “To be in the first-team and then go back into the U21s. I have seen some players in the past can be a bit funny about going back to the younger players, but Will just went there, scored a couple of good goals, came back and said ‘I’ve done it.’
“His whole attitude has just impressed Postecoglou and his ability as well. It’s about learning and developing and I think to be training with the likes of Sonny and having Maddison and Kulusevski teeing him up just enhanced the experience for him.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
My head says that a loan move to a League One club would be perfect for Lankshear this season, to get some meaningful minutes under his belt.
My heart says that Tottenham should keep him as a third-choice striker and give him some minutes in the cups and early Europa League games.
