I’ve found the secret to getting rid of weeds – it’s safe for pets and you already have the answers in your cupboard
A WOMAN has revealed that she has found the secret to getting rid of weeds.
So if you plan on having guests over to enjoy the sunshine in your garden this summer, then we’ve got just the thing for you.
There’s nothing more annoying than spending ages looking after your garden, only for pesky weeds to creep up everywhere.
But thankfully, Nadine Maliszewski, a DIY lover and gardening fanatic from Melbourne, Australia, has shared how she banishes weeds.
And you’ll be pleased to know that Nadine’s simple trick works in less than 24 hours too.
Not only this, but you won’t need to go out and splash the cash on pricey products, as thanks to this trick, you probably already have the answers in your cupboard.
Even better, if you’ve got kids or pets, there’s no need to worry, as Nadine swears by her ‘safe’ method.
Nadine took to social media to show off her weed killer hack – and she uses three household items.
She wrote: “Weeds be gone in 20 hours. Safe for your pets and kids.”
The green-fingered guru then shared her advice, as in a spray bottle, she mixed one tablespoon of salt, one tablespoon of washing-up liquid and 400ml of white vinegar.
The savvy mum then simply sprayed the DIY solution over her garden weeds and waited.
20 hours later, she gave her followers a close-up look at the sprayed weeds.
Whilst they were originally bright green, they were now brown and dead, clearly demonstrating the success of Nadine’s simple trick.
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @thegoldenmalas, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly raced up 168,400 views.
What is a weed? And why are they important?
Simply put, a weed is a plant that grows in an area or space you don't want it to.
Rebecca Miller, Fabulous’ Associate Editor, and keen gardener, explains why gardeners need to become friends with weeds.
“From nettles, buttercups, docks and dandelions – there are so many wonderful plants that are called weeds. And yet, as soon as the weather warms up, and we spend more time in outside, we want to pluck, pull and kill as many of them as possible, to make our gardens look perfect and pristine.
“Weeds are essential to our ecosystem – many are pollinators, providing food to bees, bats, beetles, butterflies, moths and wasps. And without weeds, these animals wouldn’t survive past early Spring.
“Weeds also give back to nature – when they die and decay, their roots break down, feed microorganisms and insects, and make pathways and tunnels for worms. Bountiful life below means plentiful life above.
“Weeds are also brilliant indicators of soil health – which is important if you want to grow anything in your outdoor space. When microorganisms and insects break down weeds, they release essential nutrients into the soil that plants soak up. They also store nitrogen and carbon dioxide in the ground, creating cleaner air and removing greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere, mitigating the climate crisis.
“So before you pull out every weed in your garden, why not give a few of them a chance to grow and bloom, and see what enters your garden to enjoy the flowers…”
Social media users were thankful for Nadine’s advice and many were keen to give it a try.
One person said: “I’ll give your home brew a go.”

He advised: “If you’re on a budget, there’s a cheap way to keep weeds at bay. If you want to remove persistent unwanted plants from paths or patios, try using washing powder. It’s a super easy way to banish weeds once and for all.”
Another added: “Thanks for the tip. I need a kid and pet friendly option.”
Meanwhile, other gardening enthusiasts flocked to the comments to share their weed killer advice.
One user recommended: “Boiling water does the job.”
Whilst a second chimed in: “Mix vinegar and bleach, then spray.”
