USA Baseball confirms final roster for WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals 2024
USA Baseball has announced its final roster for the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals 2024 presented by CARNEXT, due to take place in Thunder Bay, Canada from 28 July to 3 August, following the conclusion of a USA Women’s National Team Training Camp.
“After a great week of training, we are ecstatic to name the 20 players that will join us in our search for a world title," said Women’s National Team Program Director Ann Claire Roberson. "This was one of the most competitive camps we have held and I have no doubt these players will step up to the challenge of playing away from home and on a big stage. We are excited to see what this team brings to the table as we shift our focus to the next steps required to ensure a gold medal comes home with us from Canada.”
Following a series of intensive workouts, practices, and intrasquad scrimmages, the final 20-player team was selected, featuring a mix of familiar faces and one new addition. Of the 20 players named, 17 were part of last year's WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group A tournament in Thunder Bay where the world No. 4 finished on top of the standings with five wins from five.
The United States’ bid for gold will be led by experienced veterans Anna Kimbrell, Maggie Meidlinger and Kelsie Whitmore, who collectively bring 29 years of experience on the women’s national team.
The roster also includes stars such as Alex Hugo, KyleeLahners and Ashton Lansdell, each making their fifth appearance for Team USA.
Denae Benites will make her fourth appearance, while emerging talents OliviaPichardo and Naomi Ryan have secured spots for their third and second time,respectively.
Jillian Albayati, Jamie Baum, Elise Berger, Niki Eckert,Alana Martinez and Remi Schaber have each earned a place on the roster for athird time.
Completing the roster are Beth Greenwood and Valerie Perez,returning for their second consecutive year, while Sophia Broderick will bemaking her debut on the national team.
The team will be managed by Veronica Alvarez, a five-time Team USA player and three-time manager. She will be supported by pitching coach Rey Mendoza, and assistant coaches Alex Oglesby and Malaika Underwood.
The team will remain in Minneapolis to continue training atSiebert Field from 22-24 July, before departing for Thunder Bay to compete intheir first match against Venezuela on 28 July.
