Refreshing the cultural scene

Refreshing the cultural scene

For those staying on the island this July and August, fear not, there is plenty to enjoy. After all, we are a summer destination. Among the busy cultural agenda of the season and the crowded happenings are a handful of mini-summer festivals which bring a refreshing air to the local events scene. From live music and culinary delights to stargazing, these events arrive soon to entertain islanders.

A different kind of festival, hidden in the natural landscape of Lythrodontas will take place on July 26 and 27. The 5th Pervoli Fest will be a two-day occasion of music, coffee, smoothies and camping. Apart from a line-up of six DJs, Pervoli Fest will be more than just a music event. Visitors will be able to ride horses, play volleyball and backgammon, pick up vintage and streetwear clothes and camp in nature. On the music side of things, day one’s programme will include music by Jigsaw B2B Mae, KZEN and PATSIAZ. On day two, Angie B2B KONN, PAN and the Afrofox Duo will play funky tunes.

As August arrives so does the 2nd Pachna Street Food Festival. Ayiou Georgiou square in Pano Pachna village in the Limassol district will host a day full of food and drink, inviting visitors to the village. Organised by its Youth Centre, the event will have free entrance and a play area for children as food stalls serve bites from 5pm onwards.

Later in the month, as the Perseids meteor showers make their grand appearance in Cyprus’ night sky, Agrofest organises a three-day event to celebrate the occasion. Films under the stars, music and dancing are to fill the Platres Arena on August 9, 10 and 11. An open-air cinema night will kickstart the festival’s activities on August 9. Day two will be dedicated to reggaeton and dance music as LEGGO takes over. Day three will blast Greek hits creating the ultimate summer dance party.

The events’ calendar will remain busy until the end of summer and as September arrives and holidays end and schools re-open, events will continue offering entertainment. Maroni village in Larnaca district will host its 3rd Maroni Street Food Festival on September 7 with kiosks selling local products, stands cooking food live, chefs doing live gastronomic demonstrations and live music and dancing.
