'Nice self-own': Josh Hawley called to 'resign' after Biden departure comments

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) was on the receiving end of a blizzard of insults after he used President Joe Biden's announcement on Sunday that he would no longer seek re-election to demand the president step down.

Hawley took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to sneer, "Then RESIGN your office. If you can’t run a mere political campaign, you can’t be President."

Commenters were quick to note that not only would that make Vice President Kamala Harris the president, thus the incumbent, but also pointed to Hawley's support for the Jan. 6 rioters he was filmed running away from, which led his hometown paper to label him a "fleeing coward."

"Harris will be president then. Nice self-own," Blue Georgia added.

Joey Bonanno wrote, "Wrong little boy, campaign is a 4 year commitment, President Will finish his term, then we will elect President Harris in November."

"YOU RESIGN! Traitor!" advised another commenter to which John Freeman added, "How about you resign, do you remember your role in January 6th & your support of a convicted felon."

Another cited his infamous Jan 6 sprint, writing, "You’re never gonna be able to run away from running away."

Another commenter summed it up with a meme:
