'Mountain of uncertainty': CNN's Kaitlan Collins says Biden just plunged party into chaos
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reacted fast to the news of President Joe Biden’s decision not to run for re-election — and said Democrats are scrambling for some idea of how to proceed.
“This is just a huge mountain of uncertainty for everyone,” she said.
“I think the question is what this looks like going forward, and if the party does line-up behind what President Biden did today by endorsing [Kamala] Harris as the nominee going forward."
She went on, “Obviously, this is uncharted territory for anyone, much less the White House. And so it is a major question of what these next few weeks look like.”
Biden announced in a letter posted to his X account Sunday afternoon that he will discontinue his campaign to run for re-election
It follows weeks of pressure to step aside that started after his poor debate performance with former President Donald Trump last month.

Collins said the Democratic Party was now in unchartered territory, with no clarity about who its presidential candidate will be, how they will be selected, and what happens to the existing Biden and Harris campaign, which has millions in funds stockpiled.
It also throws next month’s Democratic convention in Chicago into turmoil.
“What the campaign trail is going to be looking like in these next few weeks heading up to the DNC? I mean, to be frank, we have no idea.”
