IF THE future really is electric, then one issue that’s on the mind of all drivers looking to buy an EV is the time it takes to charge their new set of wheels.
It’s simply never been an issue for petrol and diesel or engines, as drivers weren’t giving much much thought to the speed of refuelling.
Recharging an EV isn’t as simple as parking up at the station and waiting a few seconds with a pump in hand, as it take anywhere between 30 minutes or as much as 12 hours.
However, there’s a handful of current EVs – and some set to arrive in the near future – that boasts superfast charging times.
According to ThisIsMoney, these are some of them of the best.
Kia EV6 (and EV6 GT) 10-80% charge in 20 mins
Kia are one of the leading makers of affordable EVs.
The Kia EV3, for example, is a cutting edge motor with a big battery range that’s set to take on many other junior SUV rivals.
And the EV6, both its RWD, AWD and the GT, can charge up to 235kW speeds, with a maximum range estimated to be 328 miles.
Impressively, some 62 miles of charge can be added in just over four minutes – enough time to make a cup of tea.
Lotus Eletre – 10-80% charge in 20 mins
Luxury EVs are all the rage and few charge quicker than the newest electric offering from British-made Lotus – which boasts charging at hyperfast speeds.
Hook it up to a 350kW charger and you can get 10% to 80% charge in just 20 minutes, with 74 miles of range taking just five minutes.
Maserati GranTurismo Folgore – 10-80% charge in 19 mins
It rarely gets more luxurious than this, with the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore boasting plush interiors and an exhilarating driving experience – as well as speedy charging times with its 270kW capability.
The shiny EV is perfect for fast driving without range or charge anxiety, and can get up to 62 miles of charge in only five minutes, while replenishing from 10% to 80% in 19 minutes.
Porsche Taycan – 10-80% charge in 18 mins
Porsche is leading the way when it comes to luxury and sporty EVs, with the new 2025 Taycan offering some of the fastest charging around.
In fact, you’ll be able to get up to 80% from 10% in just 18 minutes – which is an improvement on the old Taycan.
Audi e-tron GT – 10-80% charge in 18 mins
While Audi is no longer making the Audi e-tron GT quattro motors, the new S e-tron GT is in the works and will be one of the fastest-charging EVs available.
It will also come with a range of up to 375 miles, but will cost over £108,000.
It might be worth it if it’s any better than its predecessor, which can hit 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes – less time than an episode of The Simpsons.
