Ravindra Jadeja’s Omission From India’s Tour Of Sri Lanka Raises Eyebrows; All-Rounder Rested Not Dropped: Reports

Ravindra Jadeja was a part of Inda’s T20 World Cup 2024 title winning campaign.

New Delhi: Ravindra Jadeja’s omission from the ODI squad against Sri Lanka has raised quite a few eyebrows. The spin-bowling all-rounder, who was a part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign last month, became the third cricketer after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to say goodbye to the shortest format. Like Kohli and Rohit, Jadeja too was busy spending quality time with his family.

But at a time when both Rohit and Kohli were asked to cut short their vacations by new coach Gautam Gambhir for the Sri Lanka series, Jadeja did not get a call. Isn’t he in the scheme of things for the ICC Champions Trophy next year in Pakistan?

Before the Champions Trophy, which is scheduled for February to March of next year, India will play six ODIs. Besides the three against Sri Lanka, India’s rest 50-over games will be against England at home, which finishes just a week before the Champions Trophy.

According to a ESPNCricinfo report, the BCCI selection committee didn’t drop Jadeja. Instead he has been rested as the all-rounder has been constantly been on road since the IPL in March. He has been assured that Jadeja would remain be considered as India’s premier spin-bowling all-rounder.

The report also stated that the management wants Jadeja to be completely fresh for 10 Test matches India will play beteen September 2024 to January 2025. His omission from Sri Lanka series also gives a chance to Axar Patel to emulate his T20I performances into ODIs. India’s three ODIs against Sri Lanka are scheduled for August 2, 4 and 7.

India’s ODI Squad Vs Sri Lanka: Rohit Sharma (C), Ꮪhubman Gill (VC), Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Riyan Parag, Axar Patel, Khaleel Ahmed, Harshit Rana.
